Over Tipping on Twitter

Following the standard creed of offering value when tweeting, our social media screens are regularly flooded with multiple tips for followers to… well, follow. But how much can the reader remember at any given moment?

Perhaps we should be a little less generous when offering useful information. Twitter itself was designed to provide condensed messaging — perfect for Americans who are on a diet and like their news and information microwaved.

French mathematician/philosopher Blaise Pascal said, “I have written you a long letter because I did not have time to write a short one.” He understood the challenge of writing concisely and to the point.

We should work harder to employ the Goldilocks’ method and sort through our portion of tips to find the amount that is just right.

It seems to me the old advertising maxim applies when it comes to tipping, “It’s not what you say, it’s what they hear.”

I’m done.

  1. The title of this post is hilarious and I couldn’t agree more: too much tipping is just too much! Or, to quote the great Roman orator and statesman, Cicero (104-43 BC) “When you wish to instruct, be brief; that men’s minds take in quickly what you say, learn its lesson, and retain it faithfully. Every word that is unnecessary only pours over the side of a brimming mind.”
